The stiffnesses (II): what produced them.

Written on October 10, 2010 – 10:06 am | by F. Javier Molano

We have been said that stiffnesses appeare when we do an exhaustive effort and we gather lactic acid in our muscles. This acid would crystallize and go in our muscle.

We have been also said that if strechting out, jogging smoothly and drinking lemonade  with sugar, we can get ready for them, but the truth is that we cannot prevent them from appearing. It is said that we could remove lactic acid in the muscle, but, in fact, the lactic acid is not the real cause of stiffnesses.

Stiffnesses appeare when we do new movements because we don´t coordinate them properly and we apply more strenght than we need, what means an agression for the muscle fibres.

If we had a long period of time without training,we would also lose our coordination and, later, we need to recover this coordination , so it is probably that stiffnesses return again.

When we repeat one movement a couple of days more, we improve the way of doing it, so the muscles would work with the proper muscle tension and we won´t notice any stiffnesses again.

If stiffnesses finally happen, you shouldn´t give up training, although it is very painful, so the body fit the effort and they would dissapeare if we spread training.

Movements that involve the muscle with tension and difficulty would be what stop the weight body in a controlled way or a weight, etc.

These movements are called eccentric and their first characteristic would be that muscles are enlarged during the tension.Deadening a fall after a jump or controlling the slope of a weight, these would be examples of eccentric movements.

Exercises would turn into a strength movement ( who has never wanted to touch his feet with strechted  kness, feeling that the muscles of the back thigh are as hard as nails and we make an effort to get them, what a pain ! ).What we are doing, in most of the cases, is trying to set the enlargement of a muscle that is not relaxed yet.

Quick and violent movements gather a lot of tension and they are  difficult to coordinate ( even more because you have to stop them ), what turn them into risk elements in order to feel stiffnesses.

Next time, we will explain about how prevent stiffnesses from happening…

The phosphorus (I): Work main

Written on October 4, 2010 – 2:33 pm | by F. Javier Molano

It is the second more abundant element in the organism after the calcium. It is not metallic as it could be it the iron, the zinc, the copper, etc. Also, it is insoluble in water.

Work main:

The main function of the match in the human body is the one of combining with the calcium to form calcic phosphate that is the essential element to constitute bones and the teeth.

The match and the calcium are in same proportion in the organism, in such a way that the abundance or the lack of one affect to the absorption of the other one.

Usually, there are not problems to ingest the minimum quantities of match (that this present in most of the foods that we consume).

Rather, the problem has it with the excess that match that takes place that will hinder the absorption of the calcium that will be more difficult of getting.

The relationship among these 2 minerals is regulated by the hormone parathyroids.

Almost the whole match of the organism is dedicated for this function. For that reason, the bone is the biggest reservation of calcium and of match in the human body.

The match is also present in the cell, when uniting with molecules of fat to form phospholipids that intervene in the formation of the DNA and of the cellular membranes.

In this sense, the match is essential for the growth, when participating actively in the division of the cells.

We will continue with the topic.

The creatine (I): What is it?

Written on October 2, 2010 – 10:05 am | by F. Javier Molano

The creatine is one of the supplements more used lately in the training for the development of the volume and of the muscular force.

It has been marketed their use and this is to the reach almost of any person. For that reason it is important to know this substance well, to avoid an arbitrary use that can end up to harm us.

As all the external helps, it is necessary to know as taking out it the maximum profit, and as avoiding possible contraindications.

The creatine is an organic element that is present in the muscular cells. Not it is an amino acid, but if a made up of nitrogen of the group amina that combines with the phosphorus to form the phosphocreatine.

The phosphocreatine allows to store energy in the muscle, and for its vicinity to the muscular cell assures the quick provision for the muscular contraction of high quantities of energy. For that reason it is necessary to execute and to prolong, the short efforts of high intensity.

In another moment, we will explain with more detail how it  obtains from the body the necessary energy to carry out physical efforts, but to be able to understand the function of the creatine in the organism we will expose a global vision.

The muscular alone cell can get the energy to carry out its work starting from a denominated element TAP, of great simplicity and that it is only formed by three phosphorus molecules that condense an energy  of great capacity in its links of union.

All the energy reservations of the body (hydrates of carbon, fatty, and even proteins) have to break down until arriving to the form of ATP to be able to be used by the muscular cell.

The way for which each one of these substances becomes TAP is different, and the time that they need to get energy, as well as the quantity given .

Certain deposits, as those of muscular glucose, are more accessible, for their proximity, and to have to suffer less decomposition to form TAP.

However,  fats and proteins have to come from more distant places and they need longer elaboration processes, for what we need more than thirty minutes, for example to begin to use deposits of fat in the exercise.

It will continue.
